This Mother’s Day – you can support crafters and a great cause by buying a hand made gift from the Womens Craft Cooperative.  I love giving gifts from the WCC.  The pieces are always impeccably made and always appreciated.

Mother's Day Necklace

Each year, the WCC creates a special Mother’s Day product, and this year they have outdone themselves once again – the necklace that they have created this year is spectacular.  The beads are simply gorgeous and the craftsmanship is fabulous.  The necklace is truly beautiful and super versatile.

Rosies Place Necklace - option 1

For a tribute donation of $65, customers can send a limited edition Mother’s Day necklace to their mother or special someone. This year’s versatile necklace features four unique looks in one; it has three strands that can be worn together as a dramatic 38” long necklace or separately, from 18-20” long. It is comprised of a luminous collection of freshwater cultured pearls in antique copper and green potato pearls strung with Swarovski pacific opal, smoky topaz bi-cone and crystal and glazed aurora borealis Czech glass beads.

Rosie's Place Mother's Day Necklace

About the organization:

One of our most successful programs at Rosie’s Place is our social enterprise, the Women’s Craft Cooperative (WCC). Through introducing women to craft skills and the basics of merchandising, the cooperative aims to foster self-esteem and creativity, along with employable skills. Our products are of the highest quality and not only make special gifts, but are a meaningful way to directly benefit the poor and homeless women at Rosie’s Place.

Cat Scan!

I stumbled upon this awesome blog of cat scans- scanned cats that is. They make really interesting images, but it must have been very difficult to get these shots at all. Cats are hard to corner. Head over to The Cat Scan to check it out.

Journals on Etsy

Etsy Friday has pretty much fizzled out, but I have been creating Treasuries on Etsy, and I thought I would share them here.  I love school supplies and empty books- ready for musings or drawings or numbers.  A new journal is just the ticket!  See the treasury here on Etsy.

A moment of Blue

I love the lines and colors of this photograph

I’m also missing being on vacation and on the water today, I suppose.

I really enjoyed reading this article on Craft about how to price your work.  It also helps you figure out your hourly rate.  Super helpful and informative for crafters and designers alike.

Typing a portrait

This is a very interesting video about performance artist, Keira Rathbone, who creates art with a typewriter.  She performs in historically appropriate clothing when she creates it, but the amazing thing is the images she creates with the typewriter.  Which is the real art?  The process or the product?

Reuse! Craft!

How to rewire a lamp from the NY Times

It’s pretty awesome that the NY Times has published this guide to rewiring a lamp.  While, having three experts to call when having a diy project like this is a luxury afforded only to reporters, it’s actually a good guide to the technical side of rewiring a lamp.  There are so many beautiful things that we throw away instead of fixing or finding other purposes for- it’s nice to see this article.

Seeing that it’s Earth Day, I’m looking for some other great projects for reusing materials that I have around.

light bulb chandelier
Recycled Lightbulb Chandelier from Readymade.  I pretty much all things light related, and I hate throwing away old light bulbs, so this chandelier is the optimal project for me!  I can’t wait to amass the amount of light bulbs I will need to make this for my studio!

monogrammed napkins from a vintage sheet

Monogrammed napkins from a vintage sheet by Leethal. Genius!  They are so pretty and are so eye catching as napkins.  I think I’m going to try to make these this weekend!

Have a happy Earth Day!
